Why is my machine stretch film constantly tearing on my wrapper, even with quality film?
Film breakage is often a machine or load issue, not a film quality issue. The top three causes we see in Malaysian warehouses are:
-
Improper Pre-Stretch Setting: If the machine pre-stretch ratio (often $200\%$ to $300\%$) is set higher than the film's maximum limit, the film will experience an "ultimate break" (a clean, pointed tear).
-
Product Puncture Points: Sharp edges or protruding items on the pallet are creating "nicks" that weaken the film. Fix: Use corner protectors or change the wrapping pattern to bypass the sharp edge.
-
Film Flaws (Gels): Small, unmelted pieces of resin called "gels" in low-quality film will cause V-shaped tears. Fix: Only use film from manufacturers with strict quality control.
